What six years of tutoring taught me
I started in 2020 teaching English over video calls to kids in China. Six years later I run my own tutoring company. A few things stuck along the way.
Curiosity beats drilling
At the Robertson Program we taught math through games and open questions. Kids who'd decided they were "bad at math" would spend 20 minutes arguing about a pattern. Once a student is curious, the practice gets a lot easier.
Every student needs something different
Some students need structure and some need room. Some need a confidence boost before they need any new content. Figuring out which one you've got is most of the job.
Parents are part of the team
Clear, regular updates to parents do as much as the session itself. That's built into how X Tutoring works.
